An Employee Handbook should be a straightforward reference document for familiarizing employees with basic employment policies and procedures.  To be given to each employee at time of hire, a well-crafted handbook will help prevent misunderstandings about what is expected as well as what is acceptable behavior.  The goal of this presentation is to provide a basic understanding of how to ensure a handbook is complete and up-to-date.

An HR audit is a diagnostic tool to assess the health of human resource protocols and procedures.  Whether a practice has 5 or 500 employees, this comprehensive review can help avoid the significant legal and/or financial penalties for not complying with the vast array of complicated employment laws.   Attendees will learn the basics of conducting a compliance audit in order to identify potentially damaging gaps in their HR practices.      

The HR protocols established today may not be legally compliant tomorrow.  As employment laws continuously change, at both federal and state levels, it is important for practices to periodically revisit their human resources procedures.  Discussions will center on the likely audit topics to be reviewed and offer instructions on how and when to conduct self-audits.  This topic can be discussed as a stand-alone workshop or combined with the “Why Are They So Critical” discussion.
