There are general business principles that all veterinarians should be familiar with before making the leap to practice ownership or management.  Most new veterinarians have never been properly trained on how to effectively, and legally, manage employees.  From determining how many employees will be needed to adequately staff the practice to dealing with problem employees to developing the desired culture, there are right and wrong ways to manage employees.  The purpose of this presentation is to provide a basic overview of key human resource fundamentals that will help aspiring practice owners prepare for some of the difficult management challenges that lie ahead.  

 

 

There are fundamental people management principles to which each practice must adhere in order to avoid turning little problems into major issues.  While some of them may seem basic, knowing how to apply them will be invaluable.  The intent of this discussion is to review those fundamentals and help attendees figure out how to adapt them to their practices.
